Wednesday, October 3, 2012 Online Film Festival

Alright runners! We're in the homestretch of viewing Running the Rockpile for FREE at the Online Film Festival.  Check out the 22-minute short documentary on New England's tallest peak and arguably most challenging footrace before the festival ends October 15. Rumor has it that there is an audience choice prize going to the film with the most views at the end of the festival. Tell your friends! Tell your co-workers! Tell your grandmother! Click Refresh! :)

Fall temps mean fall training runs crunching over leaves and wearing reflective strips on your t-shirt due to waning sunlight. Hope you're enjoying some of this fresh air and beautiful scenery. It's a runner's world out there, truly.

Two opportunities to watch!

Ahoy runners!

I've got two viewing opportunities for you this Fall, already!

On Sept 12 the Howe Library in Hanover, NH will be screening RTR as a part of the Inspire Active Living Series brought to you by Upper Valley Running Club member and New London Recreation Director Chad Denning (of Team Amp). Many thanks to Nancy Dunbar, also, for her help organizing this event. Along with the screening, members of the UVRC will be in attendance to talk about their experiences with the race. The night promises to be a great resource for not only mountain running enthusiasts interested in the big hill, but also for those interested in New Hampshire and race history. Very cool event series here. Great ideas on how to get active--maybe there are more folks out there like me who had no idea there even was such a thing as mountain running. And all of a sudden: a whole new challenge.

If Hanover is a little out of your way and you won't be able to make that screening, I've got great news for you. Last month this filmmaker was approached by the folks at to be a part of their 4th Annual Online Film Festival. To say I was surprised and humbled by this invitation is an understatement. is a really great resource for filmmakers in New England, and I suspect even farther afield. I used the website while making my film for tips, techniques and advice on a whole array of filmmaking topics. The site also maintains a job posting board that, for anyone in the film scene--or trying to break into it-- proves a great way to stay connected to New England opportunities. I was pumped to be able to submit Running The Rockpile to this festival. Big Shout Outs to the SNOB (Somewhat North of Boston) Festival for nominating RTR for this honor!

The Fest is running from Sept 1-Oct 15 and you can watch as many films as you want (all for free, by the way). There seems to be an "audience choice" prize going to the film that garners the most tell your friends!! :)

Check out's Online festival here! Or go right to the Running the Rockpile page (you know you want to!!)

Thanks, again, to all those followers who've waited patiently to see the film up online. Don't miss your chance to see it!

Check it out sports fans! We've managed to talk REI in Chicago into hosting a screening of RUNNING THE ROCKPILE! (Special thanks to Matt Flaherty) I'll be there...will you?? The 22-minute short film will be shown in REI's community room, which has a capacity of about 50 people. Can we fill it up?!? Feel free to print up the attached flyer and tape it up at your local hipster coffee shop, favorite running store, or to the front of your office's refrigerator!

As you may know, this film is centered on the history of the Mount Washington Road Race, which will hold its 52nd running in New Hampshire that Saturday June 16, 2012. While the history of the race is reminisced by some of the key figures, past and present, the film is also capturing the human spirit of exploring, persevering, accomplishing, and just down right doing. And maybe not just in the obvious way you're all thinking.

When? Wednesday, Jun 13, 2012 @7pm
Where? REI, Lincoln Park, 1466 North Halsted Street, Chicago, IL

Greater Lowell Road Runners

If you've been a hit or miss member of the good ol' Greater Lowell Road Runners club, you may want to hit up the annual Hall of Fame and Awards dinner this Saturday, April 14, 2012. Why? Because you'll get to see all your running friends from around the area. You'll enjoy a lovely supper with run-minded folks. And you'll finally get to see the most talked about Mt. Washington Road Race documentary ever!!*

That's right! The president of this fair club, Glenn Stewart, has scheduled a screening as a part of the banquet! While it is a private event-- don't you want to join the club now??-- You, non-member, can schedule your very own screening by purchasing the DVD for sale right on this website! OR if you, non-member, are affiliated with a different club in the Massachusetts area (in the NH area? in the ME area? the Chicago area? Denver?) please contact me at

If you do happen to attend this Saturday's screening. Let me know what you think!

Cheers Runners!

*It may also be the only documentary about the Mt. Washington Road Race

Lottery Results

Not talking about Mega Millions! Did your number get picked to enter the Mount Washington Road Race this year? Are you a first time runner curious about EVERYTHING Mt. Wash? Are you a Streaker looking for the insider perspective on how this race has been around for so long, anyway? Have you run it once before and swore you'd never do such a crazy thing again only to find a sleepless night before the lottery drawing because the mountain is haunting you??

Well, maybe you'd better get your very own copy of RUNNING THE ROCKPILE on DVD!

Just sayin'.

Attn: Running Clubs of New England (and beyond?)

We are now a month away from the Mount Washington Road Race official lottery drawing! That's right, the race to the clouds has such an impressive following that you have to first compete with luck via a lottery number system to enter the race. Registration for this race opens next week! Wednesday! February 15, 2012! Circle that date on your calendar...the lottery closes March 15 and the drawing takes place on the 16th.

In the mean time, I wonder if you might like to screen a viewing of RUNNING THE ROCKPILE for your club? Many of your club-mates are hoping for a lucky entry into the race and are not only training for 5K, 10K, half or marathon distances, but also looking ahead to June to climb New England's tallest peak. You're all big fans of grabbing a beer after your weekly club runs, how about a 22-minute film screening with the possibility of the filmmaker joining!

I made this film to examine the phenomena of mountain running and my greatest hope has been to get it into the hands (or feet?) of those who inspired the project: you, the runner! So, if this sounds like something your club would be interested, please email me and let's set a date!
